Family Reunification Through Sponsorship: Partnering with Continent Connects

The Federal Immigration program is a testament to Canada’s commitment to family values. It offers Canadian citizens and permanent residents the chance to bring their close family members from abroad to join them in Canada.

Eligibility for Sponsoring Family Members:

Who Can You Sponsor?

  • Spouses, common-law or conjugal partners aged 16 or above.
  • Parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents.
  • Dependent children, which include adopted offspring.

Sponsorship Criteria:

  • The sponsor must either be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident residing in Canada.
  • They should be 18 years or older.
  • The individual should not be defaulting on a prior sponsorship undertaking.
  • Receiving social assistance for reasons other than disability is a disqualifier.
  • Medical constraints apply selectively; for spouses or dependent children, most medical conditions aren’t an impediment.

Specific Guidelines:

  • For sponsoring immediate family, like spouses and dependent children, financial criteria set out in the Low Income Cut-Off Table isn’t mandatory, provided other eligibility conditions are met.
  • However, for extended family like parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents, financial capability is key. Sponsors should demonstrate they’ve met the LICO
criteria plus 30% for three years before the application and maintain this during
    the application process.
